چکیده

In volume rendering gradient information is used to classify and color samples along a ray. In this paper we present an analysis of the theoretically ideal gradient estimator and compare some commonly used gradient estimators with the ideal estimator. A new method is presented to calculate the gradient on an arbitrary position, using the derivative of the interpolation lter as the basis for the new gradient lter. As an example we will discuss the use of the derivative of the cubic spline. A comparison will be made showing the di erences with other methods. Computational e ciency can be realized since parts of the interpolation computation can be leveraged in the gradient estimation.

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...

Comparison of Two Kinds of Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shells with Various Volume Fraction Laws for Vibration Analysis

In this paper, a study on the vibration of thin cylindrical shells made of a functionally gradient material (FGM) composed of stainless steel and nickel is presented. The effects of the FGM configuration are taken into account by studying the frequencies of two FG cylindrical shells. Type I FG cylindrical shell has nickel on its inner surface and stainless steel on its outer surface and Type II...

Towards High Quality Gradient Estimation on Regular Lattices

We present two methods for accurate gradient estimation from scalar field data sampled on regular lattices. The first method is based on the multi-dimensional Taylor series expansion of the convolution sum and allows us to specify design criteria such as compactness and approximation power. The second method is based on a Hilbert space framework and provides a minimum error solution in the form...

GPU Based On-the-fly Light Emission-absorption Approximation for Direct Multi-volume Rendering

We present a novel on-the-fly scatter approximation scheme that can be applied concurrently to multiple volumetric datasets. We use a simplified version of the emission-absorption model, including single scattering and shadowing and guide the scatter sample positions and in-scatter coefficients by local gradients. This allows us to render multiple intersecting volumes with our rendering system ...
